Our eyes can do a quite a bit of talking. These babies can seduce.
Perhaps you’ve heard the phrase “Batting my lashes.” This sexy little act is often overemphasized in old films and cartoons. However, there is something to it and it can be incredibly seductive. No need to even “bat” them if they are beautifully enhanced. Simply wearing mascara gives them a flirty effect.
Keep in mind, I know mascara is not for everyone. Regardless, I hope you find something delightful about this article.
Does Mascara Make You More Attractive?
There are quite a few reasons why mascara is a staple in most women’s collection of seductive essentials.
Mascara can make you more attractive for it has the ability to enhance one of your most seductive features. While it darkens, thickens and lengthens lashes, mascara is creating an enticing look by creating more of a contrast amongst your other features.
This in turn creates a more feminine look and attracts others to our gaze. Just a few applications of the correct mascara can create a come-hither appearance.
Just a few simple swipes to coat your lashes and you can see a dramatically different result. Use it to complete a full make-up look along with touched up lips and a pinch of the cheeks and you can have a total bombshell effect.
In How To Look Seductive Without Trying: Keys To Captivation, I write a little bit about how we use our eyes to seduce. This effect is heightened of course when we have our lashes done up a bit.
Looking up at someone and peering through your lashes is such a shockingly seductive move. Literally it can send a little shock of excitement through someone, you know, those little butterflies.
What Does Mascara Do? Why Women Wear It
Old cartoons with sexy, feminine, and flirtatious characters always have emphasized lashes. In old-fashioned cartoons we’d see vixen-like gals with hyper-exaggerated lashes.
Mascara gives us an enticing look by plumping up our lashes creating more focus on our eyes. These plush, long lashes signify; sex appeal, a feminine appearance, flirtation, and contradictory to that, a coy shyness.
This is why women wear it. It creates a more attractive look by making those pretty peepers more prominent.
Mascara is one of those pieces that can spark a little boost of confidence within us. Similar to applying some good perfume or red lipstick, it’s one of those pieces that completes a look. It becomes a finishing touch to the overall look we are trying to create.
Why Do I Look “Bad” In Mascara?
I’ve encountered this problem testing out several mascaras throughout the years.
Looking bad in mascara is a result of the incorrect brush for your desired effect, an application technique that does not compliment your eye shape, and a non-flattering color and formulation.
How we apply the mascara and where we apply it is important. We must take into consideration our eye shape. The brush size is important along with its design.
Over application is also a problem. On a date, when I was in my early 20’s, someone had told me I had and exceptional amount of makeup on. I was really only wearing a small amount of liner but, yes, I did overload the mascara thinking more was better.
It may suit some features. However, on my delicate features, it was a mess. It wasn’t a deal breaker for we dated for several years, but I still remember that comment to this day.
I have hooded eyes and mascara always overpowered my eyes unless I used a strategic placement of it. In Mascara For Hooded Eyes: Emphasizing Their Seductive Beauty, I give my most favorite an best mascara picks for hooded eyes and also how to achieve a fox eye with mascara for hooded eyes.
How To Look Good In Mascara
There are a few important factors in a mascara to compliment our eyes and make us look good.
- Application Technique
- Brush Size And Design
- Color And Formulation
My eyes are relatively small and hooded toward the outer corners. They’ve always looked un-natural when I applied mascara like most women do, from root to tip, throughout the entire upper eyelash area.
This resulted in a very unflattering look. I learned with my eye shape and combination of features that either concentrating on the middle are of my lash line or outer corner results in the most flattering look. This did take some trial and error.
Experimentation is always best. See what placement looks most flattering for your eye shape in combination with your features.
Does it look good when you just enhance the tips of the lashes with the mascara wand? Does it look better if you do the bottom lashes along with the top?
Bigger brushes with fuller bristles create a thickened lash effect. Flex-like brushes seem to create more length.
Certain formulas along with the brush design seem to cause clumping. If you are going for a mod 1960’s look, clumping can look fantastic.
Should I Wear Brown Or Black Mascara?
Black mascara creates a more dramatic appearance, truly emphasizing the darkness of your lashes against your other features.
Now there are even more options with mascaras being marketed as even more black than originally created. This heightens the drama.
Brown mascara creates a more subdued effect. It has the ability to soften your features and overall look. In Make Your Face Look More Feminine: For A Non-Typical Beauty , I mentioned that using browns in your makeup can soften harsh facial features.
I know a mature blonde woman who looks fantastic for her age but has a similar slight insecurity as myself. Though I do love the fierce look my stronger features can give, I do want to soften them at times. This is where browns come in.
My blonde friend came into work one day with her eyes lined in a soft brown liner and lashes coated in brown mascara. It truly gave her an overall softer look and a younger appearance I might add.
If brown doesn’t work for you but you still want a soft appearance, there are mascaras in the color “Brown Black” which isn’t as strong as the darker black mascaras.
You can also use a brown liner, which is what I do, along with a black mascara to still have a “softening effect” on your facial features.
This post was to answer the question, “Does mascara make a difference?”
