Dresses for skinny girls and dresses that make you look curvy.
If this isn’t your first article of mine that you are reading, then you may know I grew up with quite the delicate frame that contributed to my insecurities when wearing dresses or skirts.
Through much trial and error I developed a better way of purchasing items that actually flattered my figure and also provided me with a slightly more enhanced look, meaning a bit more curvaceous.
I have also learned to love and appreciate my natural figure and do hope to spark that same confidence in another woman reading this.

Dresses For Skinny Girls
Dresses for skinny girls that will make them look more curvy should include some strategic placement of certain details along with the use of fabric and color to create the desired look.
Dresses for skinny girls include;
- The Cargo Dress
- The High Slit Dress
- The Tiered Dress
- The Shirred Dress
- The Ribbed Dress
- The Vivid Dress
The Cargo Dress typically features pockets and a belt that enhance a delicate figure giving it the look of added weight.
The High Slit Dress covers the legs yet offers a slight glimpse of them for a sexier look.
The Tiered Dress | Ruffle Dress | Pleated Dress offer an almost layered look. Tiers, ruffles and pleats come outward a bit from the body creating a wider look wherever this detail is placed.
The Shirred Dress has a ruched-like sewn fabric all over, creating a thicker looking fabric. This in turn creates the look of more weight on the body.
The Ribbed Dress is a thicker fabric that adds the look of weight to the body yet outlines and enhances the curves a skinny woman may already have. A little trick I love to implement is pulling the dress up just a touch to where it bunches a bit in the hip area. This creates a nicer form in the hip area.
The Vivid Dress is a bright colored dress that reflects light. Darker dressed can sometimes creates a more slender appearance so an opposing color is a nice choice. For an extra oomph, select it in a thicker ribbed-like fabric.
An example is the image at the top of this article. I’m wearing a bright colored vivid dress, but (though difficult to see in the picture) it also has a ribbed fabric, giving me that curvier look.

Dresses For Skinny Legs
If you are super shy about your delicate legs you can cover them with longer dresses. Depending on your entire look, your frame, and your stature, figure out which length of dress is most flattering first.
A midi length? A maxi dress? Or one just below the knee. Then we can select one with the right details.
There are general “rules” for selecting a dress length according to your stature, although I have seen these rules disproven.
The most flattering length will be found by trying on several dresses and beginning to see what styles and lengths look best on your figure.
Don’t forget if you are going to be wearing heels with this dress, to do so when you are trying on the dress.
After knowing in general what length looks best on you, we can go into further details to emphasize our figure.
A long slit in a dress still will conceal your thin legs if you are shy, but also expose them just a bit creating a more sexy look and adding some mystery to your overall appearance.
An A-line dress is universally flattering as the cut of the dress is very straight. It is much more flattering for skinny legs as opposed to an asymetrical cut that i have noticed gives me a slimmer look.

How To Dress When You Have No Hips
If we are looking to emphasize the width and shape of our hips, there are a few details in a dress to look for. This also comes in to play when seeking out the perfect skirt to create curves in this area as well.
Select thicker fabrics such as fabric with the ribbed detail. This design creates a certain thickness, adding to the entire small figure we are dressing.
Dresses specifically with ruching or gathering at the hips is my number 1 favorite little detail that creates the most beautiful curves at the hips and emphasizes the slight curves you may already be blessed with.
Pockets are another little detail to create an emphasis and curves in the hip area. Dresses that have pockets in the hip area can simply widen the hip area.
A cargo / safari style dress will often times have this. Find one with a belt to heighten a defined waist and you instantly add to that hourglass look.
The dress below has many features that enhance a delicate figure for a more curvy look. It has the following details that scores quite high in the category “Dresses For Skinny Girls.”
- Denim Thick Fabric
- Waist Defining Belt
- Hip Enhancing Pockets
- Zip Feature can enhance bust area when left half open
More Details To Complete The Curvier Look
Having a purse next to me while wearing a dress is one way I feel a little more confident in a dress. It may sound silly, but it somewhat provides me with that little something extra. I suppose you can say “it fills me in” as in filling in my figure.
I have noticed hobo style purses personally look great on my delicate frame and look flattering next to me.
Having a crossbody purse is also another way to attain this affect. In addition to this effect, the strap lies between the breasts and can actually create a more curvy look up top.
