This post is to inform you how to be more put together. How to look put together. How to feel put together. How to become put together. How To Look Polished.
There are three parts to this post.
1. How to look put together
2. How to feel put together
3. How to be put together.
You do not need to have ALL of these completed, these are simply ideas and suggestions to help you look, feel, and be more put together. Simply take the advice you resonate with and leave the advice that doesn’t apply to you.
How To Look Put Together
You look put together by building up your wardrobe with classic pieces, timeless pieces, good quality clothing, and colors that flatter your skin tone and hair color.
1. Build Your Wardrobe With Flattering Colors
You do this by building slowly. Starting with making room for more flattering items by decluttering.
Google the question “What season am I?” This will help you select colors that suit your hair and skin tone. Colors that will brighten up your complexion, not ones that will dull you.
I mention this tip in my writing;
- A good way to start selecting proper colors is by simply holding up an article of clothing up to your face. Does this color make me look brighter ? Duller? Prettier? More put together perhaps?
- Keep in mind, our makeup like foundation color and lipstick color also have an effect on how the colors we select to wear work with us. Having all of these colors work well together makes you look put together.
2. Have A Good Selection Of Neutral Colors
This means neutrals in your clothing items, shoes and accessories. Keep your skin tone / undertone in mind again as there are many neutrals that are either cool tone, warm tone or neutral tone.
3. Take Care Of Your Clothing Pieces
Keep your clothing looking it’s best. Take care of your items as this speaks volumes about a person.
- Hand wash delicate items. Wash items inside out, buy mesh laundry wash bags to protect them in the laundry machine, hang certain items to dry.
- Learn how to properly store items. For example sweaters should be folded and not hung up as they can lose their shape hanging on a hanger. It can stretch the fabric and make the sweater look droopy.
- Keep clothing looking clean and pressed by using a lint roller, sweater shaver for pilling, and a steamer for smoothing out wrinkles.
4. Have Sophisticated Pieces That Create A Put Together Look
Larger pieces are more of a statement and it’s beneficial to invest a little more in them. You can find good quality for a not so sharp price.
- Keep your other clothing in mind when purchasing new pieces. This will allow you to create a selection of separates that can be interchangeable, mixed and match to create several outfits that look put together.
- Replace leggings with dressier pants. They still have the legging look but provide a more put together look as their quality shows.
- Sophisticated / Pieces That Give A Put Together Look: Trench coat, Blazer, Heels, Structured bag. In this post, I discuss what clothing, materials and colors make for a sophisticated look and go more in depth about being and looking sophisticated.

5. The Basics Are Always Presentable: Good Grooming Habits
This way, you’re always ready.
- Brows. Your eyebrows frame your face and can really give you a more put together look. They should flatter all of your other facial features along with your face shape.
- Nails & hair look clean and presentable. Nail polish adds that element of looking put together, but just having clean, evenly filed, healthy looking nails is enough.
- Shaved legs. This is more for you, this tip just make you feel more about feeling put together which leads me to the next section.

How To Feel Put Together
1. Have Cohesive Elements In All Your Items
When purchasing things, always keep in mind if these items are you, if they look cohesive with your look. You can still most definitely have an eclectic style if that is truly you! This tip is just a tip, a suggestion.
- The items you keep in your purse look nice together. Keep this in mind when purchasing a makeup bag, pen pouch, etc. My planner looks cohesive with my note pad in my purse along with my makeup bag and wallet as well. They don’t have to completely match, but there should just be some cohesion. They should just look nice together.
- Extra sophisticated tip: Have your items monogrammed or customized.
- Matching hangers in your closet. This creates a more organized look in the closet rather than multicolored hangers, some plastic, some wood and some wire ones.
- Matching lingerie. You definitely just feel more put together getting ready in the morning if you start with this sexy basic.
- Matching Bedding. Your bed takes up quite a bit of space in a room. It is important to first of all make the bed each morning and to have some sort of matching look with your bed spread, covers and pillow cases.
When you are surrounded by this sort of cohesiveness in all your items, where they look put together, you begin to feel put together. All of this also creates an air of sophistication.
2. Become A Bit More Minimal
Clean out your trunk, your closet, your office. Put things away in storage that you may use in the future. Try to simplify some areas in your life. You will more than ever feel put together.
How To Be Put Together
1. Plan. Plan. Plan
With a plan set in place, you make a path. It’s easier to reach a goal, a task, or owning a business with a plan mapped out. Set goals and track their progress.
- Set aside some time each day or night to think, to plan and to get it together. Really set some time to think.

2. Stay On Top Of Things
- Set alarms. Have due dates. Pay things on time. Car appointment? Oil change? Keep track.
- A calendar is such a useful little tool in tracking not only your goals and your progress in reaching them, but also being organized and staying on top of things in general.
- Make list-making a regular habit. Make listsof the things you need, things you are running low on that need to be stocked up.
3. Everything Has A Home, Put It Away
- This means putting things away immediately when done with them.
- Have a laundry basket. There are nice and decorative ones. No laundry laying on the floor or decorating your chair with it. Something I was actually guilty of many years ago.
- Keep your car clean. It is a representation of you. Have a mini vacuum inside, car cleaning wipes, and other essentials.
- When organizing, do a small task each day afterward to keep things clean so its not an all day thing unless you like doing all the cleaning in one day.
One day, wipe the counters in the kitchen and bathrooms. Another day, do the dusting.
You can alternate as you need. This way, you’re not left with EVERYTHING piling on one day to do laundry, vacuuming, countertops, cleaning the stove, doing the mirrors, dusting and anything else.
4. Organize The Compartments Of Your Life
Create an organization system for all important compartments in your life.
- Have files, filing cabinet, a storage system for receipts, important documents,
- Make labels. Buy a label maker or hand write labels.
