How to dress like a boss lady: As a general rule, mixing elements of structure and elements of soft femininity in our clothing, accessories and mannerisms will create a feminine look, while still maintaining a sophistication about ourselves.
A balance must be created between the two to remain appropriate but not too stiff. Keep in mind of course these are suggestions and need not apply in every workplace as we all have different careers. Perhaps even if you cannot fully connect with this article, you may still pull a few pieces of information you see as useful.
This article is about how to dress like a BOSS Lady and look feminine at work yet retaining a professional look.
Two Elements; The BOSS {Structured} Elements. and the LADY {Feminine} Elements.
Add Structured Pieces For The BOSS Element
Blazers are very structured and provide an element of power, success, and give a put together look.
A watch is very boss like. This is another addition to offset a too feminine look. We want to keep a balance between fun & flirty, soft & feminine and a career oriented, boss woman.
Other pieces that provide a structured look are high neck tops. A sleeveless one, if arms are acceptable to expose at work, is very pretty and allows you to show jewelry more. Collars also give an element of sturctue.
Trouser pants. No matter what cut they are, ankle cut or long, the crease down the middle, to me, just adds such a structured sophistication.
A tiny detail like this takes a normal pant to a classier elevated look. Selecting trousers in a blush shade or cream shade add a hint of femininity which leads me to the next section
Add Touches Of Femininity For A Hint Of Dainty
Color is quite possibly the easiest way to add femininity to a clothing piece.
A suit with a blazer and trouser pant is very beautiful and boss-like. Depending how feminine we want to make it on the spectrum, we can select the suit in a lighter color, perhaps a light pink, even adding a skirt for an ultra feminine look.
Princess Diana, though she had short hair and kept a professional demure behavior, often work pastel skirt suits. What a lovely effect this had on her. This was beautiful a balance and right amount of femininity she created.
Pinks, Pastels, Blushes, Lavenders, Creams, Ivorys, Sage, and Light Neutrals. These colors can bring in some femininity to the more serious pieces we wear.
Other details of femininity are embroidery, ruffles, silk, draping and gathering on a blouse. Peplum is one of my favorite feminine additions.
Add Feminine But Sophisticated Basics & Essentials
A Classy Trench Coat. A Pair Of Heels. The Perfect Work Bag
I suggest reading What Is A Sophisticated Woman? A How To Guide where I got a little more in depth about the clothing and other characteristics of a sophisticated woman.
A trench coat is a timeless classic piece. It is sophisticated and very appropriate for the workplace. Though it gives a look of professionalism, it is most definitely a feminine piece.
A work bag is an essential in most workplaces. A structured bag in a neutral color is a great example of balancing femininity and getting the boss-like effect.
Pretty feminine flats or loafers are a fine alternative to heels. There is something so feminine about heels though, the sounds they make as you’re walking by and the walk they help create. No need for sky high heels as low kitten heels are sexy as well.
I had on a nude close-toed pair of kitten heels with a pointed toe with pants and a simple top and was stopped by several men. Those kitten heels elevated my simple look to a more feminine and sophisticated look.
Wearing the same outfit several times but with regular shoes in similar locations, with just as many men…I have yet to be stopped like I was that day. I think I’ll have to wear them again soon to test it out 😉 .
Add A Hint Of Dazzle. Keep It Simple
Minimal and dainty jewelry can look professional but also feminine.
Pearls on the ears. Stud earrings. Simple rings-not too many on each hand. Simple is classy and sophisticated.
Simple jewelry adds that little extra sparkle to an entire look, creating a more feminine look. When you move, there is a tiny glimmer of light that can sparkle off your jewelry – such a pretty effect, a hint of dazzle.
Always wear what you please to, you do not have to keep it simple. These are just simply suggestions. There are always ways to bend the rules in style.
Maintain A Polished Appearance
Hair. Nails. Makeup.
Keep a classic approach, perhaps minimalistic to stay sophisticated and polished.
Always have good grooming habits, not just to for the appearance but to actually feel your best.
Hair should look fresh and clean. Movement is always feminine in hair. This movement can be created by layers. Hair in a bun is very pretty and boss-like as well. To loosen up the severity of a sleek bun, add other feminine details into your overall look.
Make-up should enhance your femininity.
Always have clean, healthy looking nails. A clear coat of polish or whitening polish makes them look lovely along with feminizing your hands. Selecting a nail polish in a neutral color is always appropriate for any occasion as it gives your nails a look of natural glamour.
Make up can really give us a more soft and feminine look, especially if we are wanting to wear something a bit more tailored, boss-like and strong. It can create that balance we are looking for. Feminine makeup with the stronger pieces we wear can really soften to the overall look.
I do not have the most feminine features but have several different strategies in creating a more feminine look which I share here, Make Your Face Look Feminine: For A Non-Typical Beauty.
Keep It A Classy Approach
There is a classic look when we think feminine or sexy office worker.
A button down blouse with just a peak of a camisole peering through. And the buttons look easy to unbutton.
Although this look is professional, it has a tendency to provoke the male fantasy. So if you do want to be taken seriously, you must keep the sex a appeal at a slight. Keep the look toned down a bit, always adhere to your work attire guidelines and maintain a classy attitude.
Set The Mood & Effect With Perfume
Perfume.
Perfume has the ability to transform the mindset. It can also have an effect on those nearby you. This is important in selecting a perfume because depending on your job and people around you, different scents can come off as offensive.
The silage of a perfume is one key thing to keep in mind. How far do you want this scent to linger behind you? Do you want it kept close to you? Keep a perfume for work that has a silage that stays close to you if you work in healthcare for example.
Because of its ability to transform and set the mood, you should have one that makes you feel confident, boss-like, productive and sophisticated for work. How we feel is most important when wearing this unseen ambience creator.
Sometimes a perfume can be seductive & also boss-like. A double mood setter. I prefer night time perfumes as they have a mystery to them and even though they hold a title for being seductive, often times they have a completely boss-like effect on me.
Be Mindful Of Mannerisms & Their Effect
Our mannerisms speak for us while we engage in a conversation along with our words. Our mannerisms also speak for us when we are silent.
Be cognizant of the way you are standing, your posture, how you move about from place to place and your walk itself. Feminine body language does not mean you have to flip your hair, lick your lips or bat your lashes – although these seem to have quite an effect during courtship!
Feminine body language is much more than that.
There is an ease about you when you are walking. If you want to turn up the confidence and boss-like behavior, change up that walk. Practice your walk in a mirror and find what suits you and the look you want to create.
I always say a walk can be dainty, confident, or seductive. It can also be one part dainty, one part confident, and one part seductive – a combination.
Always be aware of how you are walking and your mannerisms as they have quite a lot to say themselves.
How To Dress Like a BOSS Lady? Create That Balance
Remember, when learning how to dress like a boss lady yet creating a feminine look at work but maintaining a BOSS-like behavior is all about BALANCE.
An all black structured work outfit can be made feminine. Add a dash of femininity into your hair, makeup or mannerisms to balance the darker or structured pieces.
If I had pulled my hair back into a low slick bun and put on dark lips it would create a more severe look. Now don’t get me wrong, it’s a sexy look, but if you want to bring some feminine playfulness, just loosen up the severity with soft makeup and hair.
