If you’ve glanced through The MiniSkirt Files some, you might be aware that I have always had a delicate body and at 26 years of age I finally appreciated it.

Thus being said, being a thin girl, at times would desire just a bit of width here or there. Even full bodied ladies sometimes want a little oomph in certain places.

For anyone looking to add some oomph to their hips, this one is written for them.

My number one secret is listed all the way at the bottom! But do be sure to read through as theres tons of fantastic tips I learned through trial an error that may help you!

Why Are Hips So Attractive?

Several studies conclude that hips (specifically a low waist to hip ratio) in a female signify fertility, youthfulness is attractive to the opposite sex making them quite an attractive trait to have.

Could this be as to why many of us desire to create that hourglass effect? Perhaps we are simply highlighting and signifying our;

  • Youth
  • Fertility
  • Femininity

Or perhaps recreating that effect?

Let me clarify a little something however, slim hips can also be attractive as can a higher waist to hip ratio than the ones deemed as most attractive.

Attraction is by far more than just a physical unit, though it is an aspect of it. There is nothing wrong however in a desire to emphasize or create a little oomph in our “areas that attract.”

How To Get Bigger Hips In A Day

To make hips bigger in a day and instantly bigger, there are a few strategies we can use to bring a widening effect to this area which include;

  • Certain Yoga Poses
  • Creating A Smaller Waist in Relation
  • Garment Material
  • Fabric Cut, Style & Color
  • Fabric Details & Placements

We will cover the first two points in this section. The next three bullet points will be covered in the second portion of this article. Let’s begin!

Yoga Pose

As with any new health or exercise implementation, do always consult with a professional.

I used to do an hour of yoga a few times a week. I would notice which poses gave me the instantaneous effects that I liked, and would use them whenever I needed a quick boost.

For my hips and legs, I noticed the “Mountain Pose Tadasana” gave me a small instant build at the hips and even throughout my legs and calves.

I continue to use this pose and when done for just a minute or two a few times a week, I see a bit of growth in my thighs, hips, legs and bum. If you find a particular pose in yoga targets a specific area you want to build, continue to implement this pose into a routine a few times a week.

Here is a basic understanding of Mountain Pose. So Simple, but just a few minutes a day, I created hips and thighs rather quickly. I notice growth just after!!

Speaking of “poses” always be aware of how you are posing in pictures or “posing” while standing in general. The entire physique including the hips can completely change with the way you stand.

Creating The Look Of A Smaller Waist

To create this look of bigger hips instantly we want to create a smaller waist in relation to the rest of the body creating an hourglass effect that looks proportionate though. We don’t want to get carried away with this.

Emphasizing a small waist or creating a small waist can be done so by;

  • Wearing Darker Colors in Waist Area
  • Wearing Lighter Colors in Bust & Hip Area
  • Wearing More Clingy But Forgiving Fabric (Ex: Thick Knit Material)
  • Using A Belt

How To Make Your Hips Look Wider

Garment Material

The material of clothing can have quite an effect on our physique. Some material can be a bit too clingy or similar to shape wear and have a slimming effect. We need to be cognizant of this.

Thicker (but breathable) fabrics always seem to add a little bit oomph to the body they clothe. For example; Sweater skirts can add that extra bit of something to the hip area simply because we are dressing this area in a thicker fabric. Ribbed fabrics have this same effect.

Shiny fabrics reflect light giving an instant look of width to the body part they clothe.

There are certain patterns that can simply widen the look of the area they are placed on.

Fabric Color

We know color has a great effect on perception in size. Lighter colors will reflect light thus creating a larger appearance.

Knowing this we can use lighter colored fabric or material of clothing on our hips. Skirts and dresses in lighter colors will help to enhance hips.

Take it one step up using the strategy of “placement” and opt for designs that have lighter colors in the hip area and darker colors in the waist area. The eyes will see the hips as much larger in comparison to the waist.

My No. 1 Secret & Favorite Extra Tip!

I discovered this tip when realizing my most favorite and inexpensive dresses were quite see through when worn out in the sun.

They were a ribbed fabric which I love, but due to the inexpensive quality of them, they were showing my undergarments!

I love this tip so much as it;

  • Allows me to wear a clingy dress
  • Offers protection from seeing through the dress if the fabric seems see-through
  • Gives me more shape at the hips!!

Wearing a slip skirt under a regular skirt or dress will give you bigger hips instantly!

An important note to make is that you must be aware of what kind of slip skirt you are purchasing.

Some can actually be constrictive as they are meant to be slimming. We DO NOT want this. We want a simple under skirt that has good stretch and is non-constricting.
