Mascara for hooded eyes.
Finding a mascara for hooded eyes seems basic. Find one, use it and “Voila!”
However, even though I’d select a good mascara, my eyes were either overpowered by the thickness in lashes it gave me or the mascara just didn’t emphasize the beauty in my eyes to my desire.
I’ve learned different techniques and went through several tubes of mascara but came down to a good formula for applying a mascara for hooded eyes, and getting a fox eye for hooded eyes using mascara alone.
This post is about my most favorite mascaras for hooded eyes.
Are Hooded Eyes Attractive
Hooded eyes are indeed attractive and beautiful. Eyes in general can be very captivating. Hooded eyes have a seductive look to them, a very mysterious aura about them that can be mesmerizing.
I remember reading a magazine and half of the glossy page had Super Model Gisele Bündchen on it with a seductive stare. A quote from her stated that she uses mascara religiously to feel her best.
If I’m not mistaken, I do believe her eyes are pretty hooded. In the image her lashes looked perfect, simple, not overpowered by the makeup. Her simple makeup look actually emphasized that seductive look that hooded eyes naturally have, to me at least. I would almost call hooded eyes, “Bedroom Eyes.”
Physical attraction comes from the combination of all of your features along with your overall look like hair, physique and the clothing that accentuates your best parts, and accessories. To top it off is your presence, your mannerisms, the person you are, how you speak and act. This is the whole effect you create.
Keep in mind there are various kinds of hooded eyes. They can be hooded and downturned or hooded and straight.
We also must consider our overall combination of features. How do our lips, nose and brows look with the hooded eyes? Let’s take it further to our overall appearance.
How fresh is our complexion, how does our hair frame our face? How does your body and clothing and overall presence look together? One step further; Your mannerisms and personality.
There are several factors that contribute to our overall perception even though we may see one small feature of ours as a “flaw” it is not our overall look.
Mascara For Hooded Eyes
When it comes to mascara for hooded eyes, getting it to look good is a result of a flattering use of these factors;
- Application Technique
- Brush Size And Design
- Color And Formulation
I mentioned these factors in Does Mascara Make A Difference? A Seduction Essential.
Fuller bigger brushes create more thickness and flex-like brushes with thin bristles create length.
When applying, consider where you want your lashes to be thicker and where you want length. What technique opens them up and flatters your eyes?
Colored mascara can enhance your eyes and detail them a bit more against your other features.
Using certain mascaras, my application technique had to be specific as I wanted lifting in certain areas where the “hood” of my eye was more pronounced.
I always wanted almond shaped eyes, for they look so perfect in all eyeshadow looks. Cut crease, smokey eye-I wanted to recreate those looks but they never quite came out the same as the models and I didn’t understand why at first. Well of course! They had almond eyes.
I learned however with my hooded eyes, simplicity is much better and they actually look prettier with just a mascara. A touch of eyeliner, just a touch. And of course slightly filled in brows.
Best Mascara For Hooded Eyes
Best mascara for hooded eyes is one that opens the eyes, lifts the lashes where the hood of the eye is prominent and creates a fullness at the base of the lash line ultimately giving a flattering look to the eye.
I found a mascara that simply enhances my eyes, gives them a fullness without an overpowering effect and all in just a few swipes of a classic application method.
Urban Decay Perversion Mascara. There is something about this mascara that perfectly lines my lash line without giving a too-thick effect that can overpower smaller or hooded eyes.
The way this mascara is able to coat my outer lashes and lengthen them creates a cat eyeliner effect without wearing eyeliner. Perhaps this could be due to it being advertised as “blacker” in color? Either way I recommend this highly for hooded eyes.
With this mascara alone, I do not need to use any specific application techniques to flatter my eye unless I am trying to get the cat eye or foxy eye effect that I will explain in the next section.
In the next section I’ll talk about the use of Too Faced Better Than Sex. I must however use a technique when applying this one. If I use it all over my lashes, the lashes look beautiful, but my overall eye is not enhanced to my liking. The lashes look quite overpowering and the eyes are made looking smaller.
Hooded Eyes Fox Eye
When creating a look, and working with hooded eyes, it’s important to see what area of the eye you want your lashes to look longer, where you want some lift, and what part of the lashes you want to thicken.
For a Fox Eye or Foxy Eye for hooded eyes, we are trying to create an angled lift at the outer corner or the eyes.
To achieve a fox eye for hooded eyes, using a coat of a thickening and lifting mascara at the ends of your eyes will lift and angle that outer corner.
Those outer most lashes will now be lifted to get that foxy eye. Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara is incredible at doing so if placed just on the outer upper lashes. This fattens up and lift those pretty babies creating that foxy or cat eye.
Using the Better Than Sex as a regular mascara gave me the heavy full lash that overpowered my hooded eyes. For some it may work but I believe it’s best used toward the edge of the eye in achieving that fox eye for a hooded eye.
Depending on your hooded eyes, you can also go in a touch with a lengthening mascara angled diagonally and brushing your middle lashes up and outward creating even more of a cat or fox eye.
For length I love the Benefit Roller Lash Mascara. Just be a little extra careful with getting to close to your waterline with this one. It has a roughness to it more so than a regular brush applicator.
Always be careful when applying mascara! Those brushes can poke quite a bit if you are not careful or paying attention.

How Can I Make My Hooded Eyes Pop
To make hooded eyes pop, application techniques using precisely placed mascara and the use of color will make hooded eyes become the center of attention.
By using the above techniques in the other sections you can most definitely make hooded eyes pop. They become the stars of the show with your best girlfriend, mascara.
To recap, I suggest using the Urban Decay Perversion Mascara alone to make hooded eyes pop as it creates an eyeliner effect and gives just the right amount of drama without looking overdone. Eyes look enhanced, not overshadowed by the lashes.
To further accentuate their beauty, but at the same time giving the lashes a lifted look, I suggest the tips listed above in making the fox eye effect. Using The perversion Mascara in a normal application. And using a super thickening mascara like Too Faced Better Than Sex just at the outer corner lash line.
Another way to really get those hooded eyes to pop is using a colored mascara. The properly selected color of mascara can really enhance your natural eye color. Complimentary colors create a more captivating look as your eye color itself becomes more bold and vibrant.
Loving Your Hooded Eyes
We know that there is a beauty in all different eye shapes. Hooded eyes seem so mysterious to me, and have that seductive something about them. It’s important NOT to view them as “flaws.” They are part of an entire aura we create and part of an overall appearance we have.
