Poses that make you look curvy are ones that highlight a smaller waist, add the look of weight to your figure where necessary by using certain methods of posing along with clothing pattern, material and color.
When posing for photos, everyone always wants their best angle. Since photos are a still image, it captures one view, one angle, and can either contort or enhance our look; in this case our figure.
If you have read through any of my articles on The MiniSkirt Files, you may have an idea already that I grew up with a very delicate figure and didn’t learn to appreciate my figure until I turned 26.
When taking photos with friends and always feeling insecure next to them, I learned to pose a little differently in way that actually enhanced my curves yet still showed my delicateness. This after much review and trial and error.
As with anything, always see if it works for you. Practice some poses that make you look curvy in the mirror, take a picture. See if they give you the look that you are looking for.
NOTE: All images on my site are my own. Perfect they are not. I did however want to remain as authentic & original as possible.
How To Pose When You’re Skinny
There’s a beauty to the shyness we display with having delicate figures, but I do hope you love your delicate figure and appreciate yourself. Be proud of your body. What’s most important is if you are taking good care of it and nourishing it.
There are a few tricks you can implement when posing for a photo if you’re a thin gal. There are also certain poses that make you look curvy when posing for a photo.
- Posing with a prop if you are super shy is an option as you can somewhat hide behind it. I would sometimes use something to put in front of me or my legs. Usually my purse or perhaps a book.
- If you are wearing coat, open the coat (if weather permits) and place your hands on the waist or hips to create more of an hourglass shape or to show off an hourglass shape. Also, you can cross your legs one over the other for a greater hourglass effect. (Pose displayed in above image)
- Having a purse next to you can give the look of added weight. I noticed a hobo type bag to give the best effect of added weight to the body. Sometimes when I felt shy about being small, I would somewhat feel naked without a purse by my Side. It just gave me that little bit of something and I didn’t feel as exposed As silly as that may seem.
Consider the clothing you are wearing and it’s material and the colors and patterns. I mention several times in articles on clothing that makes you look like there is some added weight.
I recommend reading my articles, How To Look Curvy When Skinny: Curve Enhancing Techniques along with How To Get An Hourglass Figure When Skinny: Womanly Physique where I go further into detail about obtaining a more curvier appearance.

How To Pose Skinny Legs
First and foremost, please be appreciative of your body. Please take good care of it, nourish it and be healthy. I do however understand the insecurity of having thin legs and wondering how to pose in photos.
This insecurity always came across in all my images as I would not know how to position myself, and at the same time would have terrible posture that further gave detail to that insecure pose.
When posing skinny legs, there are a few ways to stand where we can make them look thicker and more curvy. Other tricks to implement are choice of clothing which we will discuss further in the article.
- Stand With Legs Crossing One Another
This makes thighs look a little bigger as the press against one another. Refer to the image where I stand with my legs crossed in the black and white skirt.
- Turn Your Body Slightly To The Side
This shows the thicker part of your thighs. You can also cross your legs over in addition. This also shows some of your bum. Even if you have the slightest curve, it will still show that curve, creating a curvier look. - Use A Prop
You can use something to cover your legs when posing such as holding a purse in front. This works great with a side view of the body.

What Should I Wear If I Have Thin Legs?
- Heels. Optional
Although they can make you look taller, they help create a more defined look.
Practice posing with them first and see if you feel confident. Although they may not always work for everyone, I did notice that they do provide the legs with a more defined look. Curvier if you will.
- Ankle Strap Heels
These seem to give a little boost in the look of weight / curves in legs. They hit right at a thin part of the leg and can create a shorter appearance which can result in a slightly wider looking leg.
- A-line Skirt
An a-line skirt is considered super flattering for many shapes, including a figure with skinny legs.
- Sweater Leggings
Sweater leggings, in the cooler months, create more thickness in the legs due to their thick, cable knit material. - Colors That Reflect Light
If wearing pants, wear lighter colors such as; Pastels, Nudes, Ivory, Cream, Blush, Lavender to name a few.

How Do I Make My Butt Look Good In Pictures?
To make your butt look good in pictures, the camera angle comes into play here alongside the strategic use of clothing and posing.
- Angle Camera A Little Bit Lower
The lower the camera angle, the bigger a bum may look in an image. Opposing this would create the look of a smaller bum. This all depends exactly how it’s done, what we wear and exactly just how we pose. In general though, I have seen this effect take place by changing the camera angle either higher or lower.
- Stand To The Side Or On An Angle
This of course will show your backside and create some of a curve.
- Practice In The Mirror & In Self Photos
Make Hips Look Bigger
To make hips look bigger, we place an emphasis on a defined waist and create the illusion of weight on the hips with specific details on the clothing.
- Emphasize The Waist
With waist cinching clothing such as a trench coat or belted dress.
Also emphasize the waist by placing hands either on waist or hips. Practice in the mirror to see which gives you the look you want to achieve.
- Ruching Fabric
Fabric with some gathering or ruching at the hips (a detail on some dresses & skirts) will emphasize the hips creating a wider look in that area. - Pattern Choice
Skirts & dresses with certain patterns create a wider look. Some include chevron, horizontal sripes, and checkered print. - Lean A Bit To One Side Pose
This creates a slightly emphasized curve of the hip creating the illusion that the hips are wider.
