How To Look Younger In Your 30s, 40s, 50s & How To Look Younger Naturally
To look younger in your 30s and above, we must place an emphasis on internal and external factors that create an overall youthful and feminine look.
This includes, truly nourishing hydration, not JUST water. Also strategic tips to create a youthful look using hair, makeup, clothing, and creating an overall health and glow about us.
Starting with my No. 1 Tip. Truly Nourishing Hydration. NOT JUST WATER. This by far will create such a difference within just a few days.
TRULY NOURISHING HYDRATION
Hydration. Is this not overstated to the MAX?
I used to think “habit Trackers” AND “water trackers” I’d find in planners were useless and silly additions. However, when I started tracking habits to track my health progress I truly realized their great potential! Especially when combined with a mood tracker??? A Pivotal shift in the right direction.
It has been noted in studies that when in a liquid form, these nutrients are more easily assembled in the body.
- Lemon Water
- Veggie Broth
- Veggie Juice
- Veggie & Fruit Smoothie
- Herbal Tea
The KEY here is TRUE HYDRATION. Give your water life with a squeeze of lemon or have a nutritious veggie drink to truly hydrate this lovely woman from within.
FACE YOGA
When I began implementing these two strategies of how to look younger naturally [ 1. True Hydration, 2. Face Yoga ], I saw dramatic changes in my face. These two are KEY FACTORS in looking younger naturally.
Face yoga brings blood flow to the face with its fresh nutrients from our nutrient rich drinks we’ve been having. And second, it works the muscles in a way where they begin to create new memory. You’ll begin to see more lift in your cheeks, eyes and entire face depending on the face yoga techniques you do.
With any new diet or exercise, please always consult a professional prior to beginning. And do ease into things, it’s important to let your body adjust properly.
Below is my favorite video for face yoga that help lift my cheeks beautifully when I do it regularly. I’ve shared this video in a previous article, but still find it very effective!
The rest of this portion will explain how the following will bring youth to our face & body with tips in the following categories;
- Hair [Highlights, Cut/Layers/Style, Accessories]
- Makeup [Softening Tips, What to Avoid]
- Clothing [Focus on Color Flattery]
- Grooming [Keeping it polished & feminine]
- Body & Health [Inner glow]
- Glow [Outer glow]
HAIR
Highlights
Sometimes highlights can add a softening effect. They do not need to be blonde, just a touch lighter than your natural hair color. This creates that softness, and adds a bit of youth.
I was looking at an image of a boyfriend’s ex, It’s silly to compare ourselves but I will be honest, curiosity did peak & I had to see what his ex looked like.
She was in her 40’s [these tips would still apply to even younger or older] and would dye her hair a dark blonde with some lighter blonde highlights. I must say that in comparison to her original hair color in a previous photo, the highlights definitely gave her a more youthful look.
Blonde in general seems to capture the eyes attention, but it isn’t always that flattering to all. Brunettes, redheads, and dark haired ladies can all create a more youthful appearance without having to lighten up their lovely locks for that’s just one factor hair has. This leads me to the next factor…
Cut, Layers, Styles
Referring back to the blonde ex-gal, she doubled up her youthful approach with a haircut that flattered her face shape and added a softening touch like side bangs. They were not side-swept bangs, but more of the blown-with-a-round-brush and to the side look.
I love hair that is all one length. Clean, classic and simple. However, on myself, I noticed when I cut layers, they offer me a more fresh appearance. Layers cut in strategic areas to frame the face in a youthful way can be super softening and super freshening.
Look at images of ladies that look attractive to you with your similar bone structure, facial features that are similar to yours and see if you can apply any of her techniques to give you a boost in your appearance.
Remember, this is NOT about comparing, it’s more for inspiration when we want a little change or a little boost in our appearance.
Hair Accessories
Little girls often wearing hair clips, bows, silky ribbons in their hair. Hair accessories can offer a youthful effect if done correctly. We want to still look like a grown up woman of course!
Silk ribbon hair ties, pretty hair clips and bows can be used to bring a softer, more feminine and more youthful look to the face and overall appearance.
In my piece How To Make Your Face Look More Feminine: For a “Non-Typical” Beauty, I mention this trick and actually use it myself. I simply liked having my long bangs off my face and would pin them back with a hair clip. In doing so, I would notice a fresher, younger looking face looking back at me.
MAKEUP
Softening Makeup Tips
- Replacing black liner with brown, grey. Experiment with softer colors.
- Instead of liquid liner, experiment with eye shadow as a liner. Shadows can have a very softening effect.
- Play with nude lipsticks, mauve lipsticks or baby shades of your favorite colors.
- A dab of shimmer on the high points of the face to create a lifting effect.
Avoid
These are just suggestions NOT RULES; Only do what you feel is right for you!
- Avoid heavy contouring.
- Avoid heavy makeup looks. It appears that less makeup creates a more youthful look as we get older.
- Avoid lining the entire eyes with liner. Play around with lining only half. Try doing only the outer or only the inner. Only the upper lid or only the lower lid. Experimentation is key!
Although I listed several tips you may find inside, I strongly recommend to read one of my first pieces, My TOP Secrets To Make Your Face Look Feminine: For A “Non-Typical Beauty.”
I originally wrote the piece for ladies with less feminine facial features [as I am one of those ladies] and shared all my tips I learned from trial and error to help create a more feminine looking face.
Femininity is associated greatly with youth. Therefore I truly can’t recommend reading through it after this article!

CLOTHING
Along with of course the shape and style of our clothing, I feel so strongly that COLOR is by far one of the most aging or youth creating factors clothing itself has to offer.
I sprinkle this tip nearly everywhere on TheMiniSkirtFiles.com, and that’s to Google the phrase, “What Season Am I?” Or type something similar. The idea is to advance in some knowledge about what colors flatter you as a whole woman. This takes into consideration hair color along with eye color, skin tone; your entire coloring in general.
My most favorite thing to do is to simply be in natural lighting, stand in front of a mirror and hold different garments, of different colors of course, and ask myself the following;
- Does this color make me look more fresh?
- Do I look more tired or more vibrant with this color near my face?
- Do I look younger? Older?
- Do I look muted? Dull? Or better than usual?
Always take into consideration if you will be tan wearing the garment, what makeup you have on, etc. These factors can quickly change the answer to the above questions
GROOMING
Keeping an overall polished look is always feminine. Femininity and youth go well hand in hand. Nails should be clean and filed nicely. Clear polish can be used to enhance more femininity.
Special Tip: Whitening nail polish can create younger looking nails and an overall younger appearance. It makes a remarkable difference. Included below is a before and after image! This trick applies to any age group and is excellent for creating a more polished, feminine, elegant look – not just youthful.
The whitener I use is from overseas. Below is a similar one I previously used. Always check reviews prior to purchasing anything! I am a part of the Amazon Affiliate Program and do make a baby commission for any purchase. Thank You in advance!

BODY & HEALTH [Inner Glow]
A beautiful body is one you feel comfortable in, appreciate all it does for you despite all of the little dips it encounters daily. It is rather of importance that we provide this beautiful body with a variety of nourishing foods.
If not already doing so, being more cognizant of what we put in our bodies will begin to create a more vibrant beautiful look. Could you imagine if we combine this with the truly nourishing hydration [Tip No. 1]?
Studies indicate that eating vegetables such as carrots can create a tan-like glow in the skin. And this is a natural two for one! Health and beauty in one step!
Oral health is also NOT to be neglected! Whitening the teeth a few shades lighter can always help bring a more youthful appearance to the face so long as we keep it as a natural looking white.
GLOW | YOUTHFUL GLOW
Along with the No. 1 tip in the beginning of this article of true hydration, and the above section of truly nourishing foods that bring about an inner glow, we can add an extra little something to further enhance that natural glow!
Always keeping the skin moisturized is an incredible way to keep that supple and inviting look. Not to mention our key word here, youthful!
Shimmer on our shoulders and collar bone are for that extra little dazzle in the sun or on a date.
I personally love to self tan although safely catching some sun rays ensures the most natural coloring. With either selection, be sure it’s the right one for you. If using self-tanning products, always check ingredients and do some research prior to using them!
